Stylishly Smart and Seriously Playful Art

Stylishly Smart and Seriously Playful Art is Trademark of Laurie Wisbrun

Artist and author, Laurie Wisbrun will exhibit at Surtex 2011 in New York, 5/15-5/17/11

Austin, Texas - March 24, 2011: Energized by the momentous growth and success of the last year, Laurie Wisbrun is optimistic about showcasing her new collections of playful and stylish art at Surtex 2011. Her modern aesthetic is unique in the market and she’s well positioned for expanding her licensing base. According to J'net Smith, owner of All Art Licensing, “Laurie approaches the marketplace with passion, instinct and a sense of humor, yet still creating artistic work that meets the current consumer sensibility - a need for comfort mixed with unexpectedly fun twists!”

Laurie has quickly developed an expanding following, and her designs continue to gain popularity and drive strong sales for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The 2010 launch of her initial two quilting fabric collections, Tufted Tweets and Urban Circus, have been so successful, Robert Kaufman has signed Laurie for three additional collections launching over the next 9 months with more to come. Her latest line, Pooches & Pickups, will begin shipping in April 2011. “Laurie is a tremendous partner to have, both in her unique design sense and her extensive promotional and branding efforts. The exceptional success we’ve experienced with her collections are directly attributable to her grassroots marketing through her own channels and her thoughtful coordination with our campaigns. Customers now ask for her products by name, and her future lines are already highly anticipated at the consumer level,” says Kyle Sanchez, Director of Strategic Marketing, Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

Laurie’s popularity as a pattern designer caught the eye of publishers RotoVision and Chronicle Books and in 2010, Laurie was asked to write a book on designing and printing fabric. The book, Mastering the Art of Fabric Printing and Design, is an inspirational and practical guide that walks readers through the entire fabric design and printing process. “We’d had the idea for a book on the subject for quite a while and when I found Laurie’s work online, her designs have exactly the style and aesthetic we were looking for and there was no doubt that she had the necessary expertise and was the perfect person to put the book together,” says Isheeta Mustafi, Commissioning Editor RotoVision. The book is being published in Fall 2011 by RotoVision (Worldwide edition) and A&C Black (U.K. edition) and in early 2012 by Chronicle Books (North America edition).

With a 20-year background in marketing and advertising, Laurie brings a depth of sales and marketing insight to her partnerships with manufacturers. “My goal is for companies to use my designs to create wildly successful product lines that surprise and delight retailers and consumers and drives profit for manufacturers,” says Wisbrun. Laurie has developed a breadth of fun new collections with smart and stylish designs. At Surtex she’ll be focused on showcasing not only her patterns but demonstrating how her designs translate as central images with coordinating borders, ideal for manufacturers in home décor, gifts, tabletop, stationery & paper goods.

Laurie Wisbrun is exhibiting in booth #553 of the SURTEX show.  To schedule an appointment or to speak to Laurie, email lauriewis@yahoo.com.

Authoring a book - to be published Fall 2011

I am currently writing a book on designing and printing fabric. Rotovision is publishing the book Fall 2011 and it will be available worldwide (excluding North America). Chronicle Books will be publishing the US and Canada edition which will be available early 2012.

The Complete Guide to Designing and Printing Fabric is a practical and comprehensive handbook that walks readers through the entire fabric design and printing process. Packed with clear, easy to follow step-by-step tutorials, this book provides inspiration and advice on how to design patterns, and also explores a wide variety of different printing methods such as digital printing, screen-printing, stamping and stencilling. Interviews with established fabric designers also provide valuable information on setting up and developing a fabric collection, and useful advice on how to approach manufacturers.

Textile design is a highly competitive industry and the Complete Guide to Designing and Printing Fabric is an indispensable reference for all fabric designers and crafters seeing to expand their knowledge and take their skills to the next level.
